Pacific Northwest of British Columbia

Tide to Table

Our adventures on the Pacific Northwest Coast of British Columbia are different.

Authentic, personalized, small groups and real experiences in the ocean.

We partner with the best accommodations and boat captains in Ucluelet, British Columbia to

offer our students a unique way to catch their own food.

what is tide to table?

Tide to Table is the sustainable, ethical and responsible harvesting of seafood while on breath-hold (i.e. freediving).

It's a teamwork sport, where we go hunting underwater using traditional spearfishing and artisanal harvesting methods.

It is the most ethical and selective way to catch seafood. At the "Table" we clean, prep and cook the fish together.

Nothing wasted, everything step learned. You walk away with the skills to feed yourself off the land (and ocean).

where & when do we explore?

Our home-base for these Tide to Table adventures is Ucluelet, British Columbia. Close enough to Vancouver and Victoria, but remote enough to feel like you are in the far north of the province.

From Ucluelet, locally known as "Ukee", you can spearfish and harvest almost anything you desire.

You will find us here end of August, September and early October. This is the best season for spearfishing in British Columbia.

what do we catch?

The Canadian Pacific Northwest (PNW) is an absolute paradise for a spearfisher and harvester.

The cold waters of the coast are vibrant and alive with multiple species we can eat.

From rockfish, to lingcod, greenling, crabs, scallops, sea cucumbers, seaweed and more!

The coast is wild, and the bounty is limitless.

what can we learn?

Our Tide to Table adventures are open to all level 1 (or higher) freedivers. You must have completed a freediving course to join.

You will learn how to identify different species, how to find them and the strategies/tactics to catch them.

All done one one breath. That's freediving!

You will also learn advanced diving techniques, the use of a speargun and safety/rescue systems.

who will be your guide?

Your guide, your coach, your safety diver, your photographer and your (amateur) chef.

Meet Luca. Founder and head coach at Sea to Sky Freediving Co. he runs the Tide to Table experiences himself.

Luca is a Canadian record holder, on Team Canada and dives to 300 feet on one breath. He's also Canada's only Molchanovs Instructor Trainer, and has coached thousands of students, some to world records in freediving.

Freediving and spearfishing is his passion, and something he has dedicated himself fully to.

You're in good (and safe) hands. Be ready to learn and have fun!

what can we see underwater?

The underwater world of the Pacific Northwest is highly underrated. The cold waters offer a biodiversity and unique marine ecosystem unlike anywhere in the world.

Cold is good. It filters out the unadventurous.

Kelp forests, sea lions, anemones, starfish, orca, humpack whales and much more!

The visibility is always best in late summer, or early fall, after the algae blooms.
